They are corrupt and not His children; to their shame they are a
warped and crooked generation. Is this the way you repay the
LORD, you foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father,
your Creator who made you and formed you? (Deut. 32:5-6)
These are strong words from a father about His children. They were the words of Moses to the Israelites,
when he knew he was about to die, and was passing on the responsibility of leadership to Joshua, his right-hand man.
But Moses knew better than anyone the wickedness in the hearts of these people, and how easily they turned away from worshiping the One
True God who had created them. In fact, he had already told them:
For I know how rebellious and stiff-necked you are. If you have
been rebellious against the LORD while I am alive and with you,
how much more will you rebel after I die? .....For I know that after
my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and will turn
from the way I have commanded you. (Deuteronomy. 31:27, 29)
The Israelites were so stubborn and rebellious they forsook their loving heavenly Father and Creator.
They worshipped other gods, they adopted the evil practices of the pagans surrounding them.
They failed to honor God, or to keep His commandments to them. They did what they pleased,
paying only the barest lip-service to the LORD, if even that.
But before we condemn them for their foolishness and arrogance in rebelling against the Almighty God, maybe we should take a look around us.
Perhaps we may even need to look in the mirror. Their nation was rebellious, stubborn, and disobedient, but so is ours!
This nation of ours was founded on God's holy word, and His principles. There can be no doubt that God has blessed our country, even as He did Israel, because our founding fathers honored God and His word!
But there has long been an effort to abolish God in our nation, to remove even a mention of His name.
Prayer in school has been abolished, even though the Bible was used as a primer for schools when our nation was founded. As a matter of fact, in the beginning, every major college in this country was founded as a
religious institution, for training people in God's word, for them to live a Godly life, and learn to teach and preach God's word.
Don't just take my word for it: go ahead, look it up! They were all Bible based institutions! But now the Holy Bible
is no longer considered relevent, and our colleges are flaunting God's word and teaching nothing but ungodliness!
Now there can be no public acknowledgment of God. People are fighting to remove crosses in veteran's cemeteries, and nativity scenes in public places.
It is no longer legal to display the Ten Commandments in any public building. They want to remove the words "In God We Trust" from our money, and the words "One nation under God" from our Pledge of Allegiance. In fact, they'd just as soon do away with the pledge entirely, as it is no longer meaningful and relevent, either.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.
They are corrupt, they have done abominable works,
there is none that doeth good. Psalms 14:1
Slowly but surely, every moral standard that God gave us is being destroyed. Whether it is abortion and the sanctity of human life, or homosexuality, and gay marriage,
or chilren needing both a mother and a father, we have turned away from God's righteousness and followed whatever we pleased. We refuse to follow our Creator, instead chasing after the gods of self, of sensuality, of hedonistic pleasures.
Yes, those Israelites were stubborn and stiff-necked, refusing to acknowledge their Creator,
but so are we! In all these years, nothing has ever changed: we are every bit as guilty as they were!
The very first commandment was that we are to have no other gods before Him. Now we are told all gods are good, everyone can worship whatever god they choose,
or no god at all, if that is what they want.
In fact, we are being told all gods are the same, and we all worship the same god, we just have different names for him/her/it/whatever. According to our world today, there is no difference between any other god and the Almighty God, the great I AM.
Unto you it was shown, that you might know that the LORD
is God; there is none else besides Him. (Deuteronomy 4:35)
Know therefore this day, and consider it in your heart,
that the LORD is God in heaven above, and upon the
earth beneath: there is none else. (Deuteronomy 4:39)
Even more, we worship the god of self. We want to usurp God, and be our own god, deciding our own course, according to our own selfish wants and goals.
(Come to think of it, isn't that why Lucifer was cast out of heaven? Why yes; yes, I believe it was!)
We want to decide what is right in our own eyes, according to our own feelings, never mind what God says.
You deserted the Rock who fathered you; and have
forgotten God that formed you. (Deuteronomy 32:18)
You were created a man but want to be a woman?
Our world says that's okay, you go ahead and be true to yourself. The world says, forget God, He isn't relevent anymore, you do what feels right to you!
You want to marry a person of the same sex, and practice what God's word calls perversion? The world says go ahead,
that Bible is so antiquated it is no longer relevent to our lives! After all, we live in a changing world, so just go ahead and do whatever seems right to you.
You are pregnant, but don't want to have the baby? According to the world, you shouldn't have to! They feed you the lie that it's your body, and it's
nobody else's business what you do with your own body.
They say abortion is a fine choice for you, and that no one has the right to say you can't rid your body of a child you don't want.
Go ahead, they say, abortion is not only an option but it's your RIGHT to kill your unborn baby.
And when the LORD saw it, He rejected them, because
He was angered by His sons and daughters. And He
said, I will hide my face from them, and see what their
end shall be: for they are a very perverse generation,
children who are unfaithful. (Deuteronomy 32:19-20)
Yes, these are the things the world teaches us, but they are wrong, wrong, WRONG! God Himself is the only authority, the only
voice of truth! And our wickedness and defiance angers Him just as much now as it did in the days of Moses and Joshua. Do you think for a
moment that He will not turn His face from us, just as He many times turned His face away from Israel? What happened to Israel,
every time God turned His face away from them for their unfaithfulness? Over and over, God gave them over to their enemies, to chastise them
and cause them to turn back to Him.
For they are a nation without sense, there no discernment
in them. If only they were wise, and would understand this,
and discern what their end will be! (Deuteronomy 32:28-29)
Unfortunately, ours is also a nation without sense. We are no longer wise enough to discern how all our rebelliousness and disobedience
is going to end.
God does not want to turn His face away from us; He loves us and wants our faithfulness to Him. He takes no joy from the chastisement
He must deal out. But make no mistake about it: what God did then, He will do to us as well, if we do not humble ourselves and repent of our stubbornness and our
unfaithfulness to God.
It takes
Godly discernment that can only come from God's Word, to see where all this is leading our country.
I don't believe we can even imagine what our end will be, if we do not gain some Godly wisdom and learn where all this is heading.
We've been a nation without sense for far too long, we better get some, before it's too late!
