It's Not About Me

I was feeling so inadequate,
Insignificant, and weak,
Sitting there before the crowd,
So nervous I couldn't speak.

"Oh, Lord" I cried, "please help me,
Give me strength to get me through."
Then I heard Him softly whisper,
"My child, it's not about you."

It was said so very tenderly,
Not in harshness or anger at all;
Just a gentle rebuke to remind me,
To be at Christ's beck and call.

"Forget about yourself", He said,
"Just keep your eyes on Me;
Because when you're looking inward,
You're too blind to really see

That I'm the One who's working,
It's My power that strengthens you;
You can do anything, through Me,
If you'll just let Me shine through."

Shine on, shine on, dear Jesus,
Shine for all the world to see!
Help me to keep my eyes on You,
And to remember, It's not about me!
