Examine My Heart

Search me, O God, and know my heart:     
try me, and know my thoughts:           
See if there be any wicked way in me,       
and lead me in the way everlasting.       
(Psalm 139:23-24)           

Before this day fades fast away,
Examine my heart, oh Lord, I pray.
If there's any trace of hidden sin,
Cleanse me, Father, deep within.

Check the deepest, darkest spots,
For anything I must confess,
Help me trust fully in Your love,
And in Your righteousness.

Help me to surrender unto You,
Anything not in Your will,
To live for You in every way,
Your plans and purposes to fulfill.

Fill my heart with love for You,
Empty me of my selfishness,
That I may live to do Your will,
And live with faithfulness.

Teach me to always seek Your will,
For anything else is second-best;
Give me wisdom to understand,
Not to settle for anything less;

May my whole life glorify You,
So that others can plainly see,
Not my faults, but only my Savior,
Christ Jesus living in me.
