Down to the Nitty-Gritty
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen. (Heb. 11:1)
It's easy enough to have faith in God,
When life is all sweet and pretty;
But will our faith start to drift away,
When we're down to the nitty-gritty?
That's where faith is truly tested:
Do we fully trust the Lord?
Are we willing to wait upon Him?
Do we really believe His Word?
When we're broken down, and helpless,
Filled with failures, fears, and self- pity ---
Does our faith vanish like a vapor,
When we're down to the nitty-gritty.
If faith only lasts in the good times
It isn't much of a faith, at all;
We must learn to keep believing,
Even if God allows us to fall.
Almighty God, increase our faith,
When life doesn't look too pretty.
Father, teach us to trust in You,
When we're down to the nitty-gritty.
