National Prayer of Repentence For Our Country

If My people, which are called by My name,
shall humble themselves, and pray,
and seek My face,
and turn from their wicked ways,
then will I hear from heaven,
and will forgive their sin,
and will heal their land. II Chr. 7:14

Throughout the Bible, when God's people faced national crises, they called for a national prayer. They always began with a prayer of repentence, for their many failures to keep God's laws. Their disobedience caused them to fall to their enemies many times, but God always heard their sincere prayers of repentence. God never changes - He will still hear our prayers when we humble ourselves before Him, confess our corporate sinfulness, and seek Him wholeheartedly.

Our nation is facing possibly the most crucial elections in our history. We are grappling with massives issues such as the illegal invasion of thousands into our country, the threats from other countries, the complete lack of repect for our President, our law enforcement officers, and our laws, and the ever increasing violence and the lies, manipulation, and downright criminal acts of some of our elected representatives. In the face of all these things, and many others, it is more critical than ever that God's people follow his instructions, humble ourselves, and repent of our disobedience.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good" but that is exactly what our nation has done. Our nation has lost it's spiritual equilibrium and reversed it's values.

We confess that, even if we have not personally committed these sins, we, as Christians, have far too often sat back silently without upholding the truth of your Holy Word;

We confess that we have placed ourselves above You, in the name of humanism; that we have allowed the absolute truth of Your Word to ridiculed and made a mockery, in the name of Pluralism; and that we have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism;

We confess that we have, by our silence, endorsed perversion and called it alternative lifestyle;

We confess that we have allowed the exploitation of the poor and called it the lottery; that we have rewarded laziness and called it welfare;

We confess that we have killed our unborn babies and called it choice; or, at the opposite end of the same issue, we have seen abortionists shot, and called it justifiable;

We confess that we have neglected to teach our children and our children's children Your Holy Word; we have failed to discipline our children, in the name of building their self-esteem;

We confess that we have shamefully neglected the needs of the elderly in this country, and have not treated them with the respect that their advanced age deserves and You command;

We confess that we have ignored abuses of power and called it politics; we have failed to take action to hold our politicians accountable for their reprehensible actions;

We confess that we have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition, that we have too often lived a life based on "keeping up with the Joneses, rather than one based on the truths of Your Word;

We confess that we have allowed the airwaves and the internet to become morally polluted with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression;

We confess that we have allowed the time-honored values of our fore- fathers to be ridiculed, in the name of enlightenment; that we have abandoned the principles this country was founded on, and have allowed men to remove any mention of Your Holy Name and your Laws from ours schools, and every public building;

We confess that as a nation, we have turned against You, Almighty God, our LORD, our Creator, and Master of all creation.

We confess that our country has greatly sinned against You, oh, Lord. We confess that we, as Christians, have sinned against You also, by our silence, if not by our actions.

Search us, Oh, God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Give us the courage to stand firm in Your righteousness, oh Lord, and to speak out openly against all unrighteousness.

Guide and bless the faithful servants who have been sent to teach us, guide us, and direct us to the center of Your will. Give us humble, teachable hearts, dear Father, and the strength of will to be obedient. We ask this in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

And After we have prayed a sincere prayer of repentence, we need to pray passionately, persistantly, and faithfully for our nation. Click here for a specific list of things we should be praying for.
