25 Reasons To Trust God

There are many who don't know God personally, who don't have a personal relationship with Him. Therefore, they don't know whether or not they can trust Him, or why they should. God is revealed to us in the Bible, His holy word. He gives us reasons why we can and should place our faith and trust in Him. He will prove Himself to us again and again, when we take Him at His word and trust in Him instead of ourselves!

If you are one who isn't sure of God and His trustworthiness, here are some of the characteristics and promises of God that you can believe in and trust. There are many, many more, but these show all us who God is and how much His children can rest in Him, always. I encourage you to pick up your Bible, and find dozens more reasons to trust God with your life!

Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with them that love Him and keep His commandments to a thousand generations (Deuteronomy 7:9)

1. God is always faithful to us. He keeps His covenant, which is a solemn promise between two or more people; He will never go back on His word. If we love Him and keep His commandments, He has mercy on us, and our descendants.

Because I will proclaim the name of the LORD: ascribe you greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, His work is perfect: for all his ways are justice: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. (Deuteronomy 32:3-4)

2. God is our Rock, unmoving and unchangeable, always a firm foundation. His work is perfect. His ways are just. He is a just God, never unfair or biased. He is always truthful and without any touch of wrong-doing.

But let all those that put their trust in you rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them: let them also that love Your name be joyful in You. (Psalms 5:11)

3. God defends us! We don't have to face all the troubles of this world alone, God will be right there with us, and will defend us when we trust in Him! What a reassurance!

For you, LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor will You surround him with a shield. (Psalms 5:12)

4. God blesses the righteous. Who is righteous? Those who have accepted Jesus Christ, God's own Son, as their Lord and Savior. He took away all our sin, and made us righteous in God's sight. And once again, we see that God defends and protects us, surrounding us with a shield.

But you, O LORD, are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head. (Psalms 3:3)

5. In addition to being a shield or defender for us, God is our glory. None of us have any glory of our own, none that lasts beyond this world, but for those who have trusted in Him, He is our glory. And He lifts up our head and gives us reason to be proud, not of our selves and our own works, but of what He has done for us and in our lives. We can hold our heads high, not because of what we are, but because of who He is!

I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill. Selah. (Psalms 3:4)

6. God hears us! He isn't a distant, indifferent deity; He hears our prayers and cares for us. He is a personal God and wants a close, loving relationahip with us.

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me. My defence is with God, who saves the upright in heart. (Ps. 3:5, 7)

7. Not only did God create us, He sustains us. Every day is a gift to us, due solely to His sustanance. He defends and saves us.

The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know Your name will put their trust in You: for You, LORD, have not forsaken them that seek You. (Ps. 9:9-10)

8. He is our refuge; our shelter from all the storms of life. We are safe and protected when we take refuge in Him. And we can rest assured that He will not ever forsake us.

Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will He teach sinners in the way. The meek will He guide in justice: and the meek will He teach His way. All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimonies. (Psalms 25:8-10)

9. God is both good and upright. What does "upright" mean? It is defined as righteous, honest, and just. We can trust in His goodness and His righteousness. And although we are all sinners, (Rom. 3:23) God promises that He will teach us and guide us in the right way, with mercy and truth. He never leaves us alone and stumbling in the dark; He is always there to lead and guide us in His path.

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalms 27:1)

10. God is our light. Have you ever tried to walk down a long dark alley? It's hard to see whatever dangers or obstacles may be lurking. God is our light; with Him we are able to see any obstacles or dangers along the way. He is our salvation, He will save us; we do not have to be afraid of whatever may lurk in the shadows. And He is our strength, at those times when we feel weak and afraid.

For the word of the LORD is right; and all His works are done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. (Psalms 33:4-5)

11. God's word is always right, we can depend on it in every situation. It never changes, and will never steer us wrong. His works are done in truth- there is no deceit or dishonesty in anything He does. What are His works, you may ask? The earth is full of His works: sunrises and sunsets, for instances. In truth, one always follows the other. It's not because of some cosmic accident, it's by divine plan! The alignment of stars in the sky; seasons following seasons, the rotation of the earth - all of these are divine works of God.

I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. (Psalms 34:4)

12. The Lord hears us. We don't pray to a distant, uncaring deity; our Lord God hears us and acts to deliver us from our fears. It may be that in His divine wisdom He chooses not to deliver us from the circumstance causing our fear, but He will deliver us from the fear.

The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry. (Psalms 34:15)

13. As we've seen, God is neither far away, no unconcerned about our troubles and trials. His eyes are always upon His children, and He hears our cries! He knows what we are going through.

But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble. (Psalms 37:39)

14. Note first that our salvation is of the Lord, and Him alone, Nothing we do or have done or can do will save us; we are saved only by God's love and grace. He is our strength on times of trouble.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. (Psalms 46:1-3)

15. God is our refuge, our place of safety and shelter. He is our strength to help us carry on when the storms of life hit. He is present, near to us to help us. Knowing and believing this, we don't have to be afraid when we face life's troubles. Troubles come to everyone; being a child of God doesn't mean we will not face all the difficulties in life; it just means we don't face them alone. God is there with us to help us through them! Amen!

For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusts in You. (Psalms 84:11-12)

16. See that God is both the sun - brightness to make us see clearly, and a shield, to protect us. He gives us grace, which is unmerited favor: we didn't earn His favor, and we don't deserve it, but He gives it to us anyway, out of His great lovingkindness towards us. He will not withhold any good thing from His children, although that is not to say He will give us anything at all we want! He knows what is good for us, and like a good parent, that is what He gives to us. We are greatly blessed when we trust in Him and His goodness!

Know you that the LORD He is God: it is He that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endures to all generations. (Psalms 100:3-5)

17. God is God, the One and Only, the Alpha and Omega; there is no other God. The world may name many, but there is only one true God. He has made us; we are not just some cosmic accident, we did not somehow evolve from some animal. We were created by Divine design, in His own image. (Gen. 1:27)

We did not make ourselves, and we cannot re-make ourselves. This is important in our day and time when people somehow believe they can change their gender from what God created to what they choose to call themselves. That is a lie straight from hell. We are God's people, His flock. The shepherd takes very good care of his flock, because the flock is his wealth, and his pride, and that is what we are to God! Therefore we should come before Him with thankful hearts, praising Him always. He is good and His mercy and truth are forever! His truth is the same now as it was two thousand years ago, it never changes, and that is why we can trust in Him always!

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities... (Psalms 103:2-3a)

18. There are benefits galore to being a child of God. The first and foremost is that He promises to FORGIVE all our iniquities!!! That alone is a marvelous benefit!

I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. (Jeremiah 31:34) As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. (Psalms 103:12)

19. And here's the really amazing thing: He not only forgives our sins and iniquities, He promises to NEVER remember them again! He will never again bring our past mistakes up to accuse or condemn us. In fact, He has moved our sins as far as the east is from the west!

Did you ever wonder why it says He removed our transgressions as far as the east is from the west? Why not as far as the north is from the south? Well, if you start at the north pole, you will be traveling south, but eventually you come to a place where you will begin traveling north again, even though you are still facing the same way. However, if you start at the equator and head east, there will never be a point where you are not heading east, you just go on and on and on, around and around the world. And THAT is how far God has removed our sin from us! WOW! Incredible isn't it?

The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy. (Psalms 103:8)

20. As we've said before, God is not just sitting somewhere up in the clouds waiting to punish us for every infraction of HIs rules; He is gracious and merciful to us, and slow to anger. He does discipline us when we do wrong, but God's grace is so great that His discipline is not a form of ounishment, but rather, a correction. We do not have to live in fear of His wrath.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame scorch you. (Isaiah 43:2)

21. The waters, the rivers, and the fire are all metaphors for devastations that come into our lives. We all face painful and difficult devastations at some point in life, whether it's for ourselves or a loved one, whether it's a physical devastation, as in illness or death, or an emotional one, as in a prodigal child, a divorce or some other type of loss. Regardless of the source of the catastrophe we face, God promises to always be with us in the midst of it! He does not leave us to face the terrible times in life alone! He willl hold our hand and lead and guide us through the devastation, until we come out safely on the other side of it. Sometimes our healing and our victory will come on this earth, sometimes it will not come until He brings us home to glory, but He promises us, healing and victory WILL come! We must only remain faithful and trust Him.

I, even I, am the LORD; and besides Me there is no savior. I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and will not remember your sins.(Isaiah 43:11, 25)

22. Again, God makes it plain, He alone is God, and without Him, there is no savior. The world names other gods, but not one of them has ever saved anyone! Not one of them forgives sin and blots out our transgressions. Only He has the power to save, through faith in His only begotten Son, Jesus! Our salvation depends not on our own efforts; we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, as revealed by Scripture alone, to the glory of God alone. This doctrine is known as the "5 Solas of the Christian Faith".

Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you upon the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me. (Isaiah 49:15-16)

23. Is it possible for a mother to forget the infant she has carried for months and nursed at her breast? No, it really isn't; even women who have not carried their infant to term or have given their baby up for adoption report always remembering and thinking about their baby. Here God says, even if such a thing were possible, His love and compassion for His children is far beyond a mortal woman's.He will never forget us. Never, no, not ever. He has carved us into His hands to keep us continually before Him. We are that precious to Him! So if you ever feel alone, lost, or forgotten, always remember this verse. God has you engraved on the palms of His hands!

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

24. God's thought process is so much higher than ours we cannot fathom some things; they are simply far too marvelous for our comprehension. His ways are also beyond our understanding. We learn many of His thoughts and His ways by closely studying His word, as we've been doing here. Through the Holy Spirit, He enlightens us to His will and His ways, even though we may not fully understand yet. He gives us glimpses, through His word and the Spirit, but we will never fully understand, at least not in this world. However, we can trust, as we've seen in this study, that His ways and His thoughts are always good, honest, just, loyal, loving, purposeful, and always for our good. He loves each of us with an everlasting love, and draws us to Himself with His lovingkindness. (Jeremiah 31:3)

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall you call upon Me, and you shall go and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you. And you shall seek Me, and find Me, when you shall search for Me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

25. God thinks of us, His children - all the time! His thoughts toward us are good, not evil. Some people seem to think of God as a punishing deity, just waiting to zap us when we do something wrong. Not! Understand that OUR punishment was given at the cross: Jesus took all our sin and received all our punishment! Therefore, we have an assured end: we will spend eternity with Him! We can always call upon Him, and He will hear us, and answer us. So many times the problem is that we seek God half-heartedly, as if we don't truly believe He's going to hear us and answer us. We cannot be lukewarm or half-hearted; God want our whole heart! He promises us when we seek Him, we will find Him, if we seek Him with all our heart.

I hope this study has helped you come to a deeper understanding of the depths of God's love for you, and why we can trust Him at all times in every possible circumstance. This is just the tip of the iceberg! Once again, I encourage you to study God's word for yourself, and see all His promises to us, and all the ways He assures us of His everlasting, unconditional love for us!
