Replacing Lies With Truths

By Sharon Jaynes

And you shall know the truth, and the
truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

If the Son therefore shall make you free,
you shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)

We are all sometimes victims of the lies of Satan. He does not want us to rest in God's truths, and know how much we are loved by our Heavenly Father, Instead, the enemy of our souls wants us to live unhappy, defeated lives by making us believe falsehood about ourselves.

Have you ever said or thought any of these? If so, I can assure you, you are not alone! But we must learn to recognize the battle tactics of our enemy, and replace his lies with the truths of God's Holy Word. When we do this, we can live victoriously, instead of beaten down and defeated, and live the abundant life Jesus promised us! Allow God's promises to penetrate your heart, and replace all the lies that weigh you down!

LIE: "I'm not good enough."

TRUTH: Because of Jesus and His work of redemption on the cross, when He took all my sins and covered me with His righteousness, I AM good enough! I am deeply loved, completely forgiven, fully pleasing to God and totally accepted by Him. I am empowered and equipped by the Holy Spirit to do all that God has called me to do.

...You are washed, you are sanctified, and you are
justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by
the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:11)

LIE: "I'm such a failure!"

TRUTH: Though I do sometimes fail, I am not a failure. Failing is something we do, not what we are. I am a child of God, who gives me victory in Christ Jesus in spite of my failures.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:57)

LIE: "I feel rejected."

TRUTH: I am chosen by God. He chose me even before the creation of the world.

According as He has chosen us in Him before the
foundation of the world, that we should be holy and
without blame before him in love: (Ephesians 1:4)

LIE: "I feel like I'm condemned."

TRUTH: I WAS condemned, before I believed in the name of Jesus Christ, (see John 3:18). However, now I am NOT condemned, I am forgiven and free. God promised to remove my sins so far away they cannot ever be found, and I am no longer condemned!

As far as the east is from the west, so far has He
removed our transgressions from us. (Psalms 103:12)

There is therefore now no condemnation to them who
are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ
Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
(Romans 8:1-2)

LIE: "God doesn't care about me."

TRUTH: God care about every single detail about me; He even counts the number of hairs on my head; and He is concerned with every aspect of my life! Even a tiny sparrow is important to God, and He takes care of them, and I am much more important to Him than a mere bird.

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them
shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very
hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore, you
are of more value than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31)

LIE: " I'm insignificant. I don't matter to anyone."

TRUTH: I have great significance as a child of God.

Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God: therefore the world knows us not, because it knew Him not. Beloved, now are we the children of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. (1 John 3:1-2)

LIE: "I can't do anything right."

TRUTH: I can do all things through Jesus Christ.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
(Philippians 4:13)

LIE: " I'm worthless."

TRUTH: The Lord has chosen me as His treasured possession. My worth is not based on what others think of me, but what God thinks of me - and He thinks I'm priceless!

For you are a holy people unto the LORD your God,
and the LORD has chosen you to be a peculiar people
unto Himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth.
(Deuteronomy 14:2)

LIE: "I'm too far gone. I don't think God could still love me after all the things I've done."

TRUTH: Nothing can separate me from the love of God, not even my own poor choices.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creation, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

LIE: "I'm too far gone. I don't think God could still love me after all the things I've done."

TRUTH: God has forgiven me of ALL my sins.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

LIE: "I feel so powerless."

Truth: I haven been the power of the Holy Spirit.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon
you: and you shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in
all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
(Acts 1:8)

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may
know what is the hope of His calling, and what is the riches of the
glory of His inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding
greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the
working of His mighty power. (Ephesians 1:18-19)

LIE: "I'm all alone."

Truth: Jesus is always with me.

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be
content with such things as ye have: for He hath said,
I will never leave you, nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)

LIE: "I can't resist temptation."

Truth: Through the power of the Holy Spirit, I CAN resist temptation. I don't have to rely on my own will power; the Holy Spirit show me how to overcome whatever temptations I may face.

There has no temptation taken you but such as is common to
man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted
above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make
a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Cor. 10:13)

LIE: "I can't take this any longer!"

Truth: Yes, I can endure this, becuase God has promised me victory in the end because of my faith in Jesus!

For whoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the
victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)

LIE: "I just can't help myself."

Truth: I can stop this sinful habit through the power of Jesus Christ. My former self is crucified, and I no longer am a servant of sin!

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of
sin might be destroyed, that we should no longer serve sin. (Rom. 6:6)

LIE: "I just don't have what it takes to succeed in life."

Truth: My God has given me everything I need to succeed in whatever He has called me to do.

According as His divine power has given unto us all things that
pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him
who has called us to glory and virtue. ( 11 Peter 1:3)

LIE: "I'll never do anything significant with my life."

Truth: I am going to do what God has planned for me, because God has wonderful plans for my life.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
unto good works, which God has before ordained that
we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)

LIE: "I will never recover from this terrible circumstance. Life will never be the same."

Truth: God will somehow cause all things to work out for good in my life. He will make a way, even when I see no way.

And we know that all things work together for good
to them that love God, to them who are the called
according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28)

LIE: "Nobody knows what I'm going through, or how I feel."

Truth: Jesus does know what I'm going through.

For we have not a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling
of our weaknesses; but was in all points tempted like we are, yet
without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace,
that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
(Hebrews 4:15-16)

LIE: "Nobody loves me, I mean really LOVES me."

Truth: God love me, very, very much! He loves me enough that He sacrificed His only Son Jesus, to save me!

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and
sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10)

These are just some of the common lies the devil uses against us. Whenever you start thinking along these lines, realize it for what it is, and immerse yourself in the Bible to speak the truth to yourself instead. God never intended for His children to live under a burden of guilt, sin, shame, and self-loathing. Get rid of this kind of negative, defeatist thoughts, and start living in the assurances of God's Word!
