Sometime it seems like we try and try to live right and to do what is pleasing to God, and things just don't seem to work out for us. The bills pile up, appliances and vehicles break down, someone else gets the promotion at work.
We seem to be fighting an uphill battle just to break even.
Then when we look around, everything seems to work out great for others who are not living right, and we are sometimes left to wonder
why we have so many problems while they are doing fine. Why should we have so many difficulties, when we're doing our best to live Godly lives in an ungodly world? It just doesn't seem right, somehow. Are't there benefits to living God's way? Is it all for nothing?
For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.
(Psalm 73:3,5)
Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.
Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. (Psalm 73:12-13)
God's word is very clear that we don't need to worry about how others seem to prosper in spite of their chosen way of life. We aren't the first to feel that way; ungodly people have always seemed to prosper, while Godly people struggle.
We serve a just God. We can be sure that there will be justice. Those who appear to prosper while living wickedly will one day face the consequences of their actions, and all their prosperity will be of no help to them. They may benefit for a short while , but God's justice is certain.
When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me;
Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.
(Psalm 73:3,5, 16-17)
Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious of the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
(Psalm 37:1)
