The last thing Jesus told His disciples, after His resurrection and before He ascended into heaven, was to teach all nations. Not just the Jews, but the Gentiles too.
The pagans and the pretenders. The wealthy and the poor. Those who were like them, and those who were different.
What were they to teach? The gospel. "Gospel" means "good news", and the good news is that Jesus saves! Jesus alone has the power to save all people from
the curse of sin. What is the curse of sin? The Bible says,
The wages of sin is death; but the
gift of God is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
Because of His perfect submission to the will of God, Jesus left all the glories of heaven
to come to earth in human form, to die a cruel and tortuous death on the cross, for one reason: to save us from our sin.
Because of His resurrection, death and the grave were conquered: He overcame both death and hell. And He offers us eternal life, also.
By placing our faith and trust in His power
to save us and give us eternal life, we do not have to fear death! Jesus told Mary, and He tells us,
I am the resurrection, and the life:
he that believes in me, though he
were dead, yet shall he live: And
whosoever lives and believes in
me shall never die. (John 11:25-26)
That is good news, indeed!
So as we celebrate Easter, the commemoration of the death and resurrection of Jesus, we should be thinking about sharing that good news with those around us. God doesn't want
for anyone to die and spend eternity in hell, forever separated from Him. Those that are lost need for someone to tell them the good news of Jesus, and His saving power.
That someone
may very well be YOU!
