The Light

I am come a light into the world,
that whosoever believeth on me
should not abide in darkness.
John 12:46

When we’re up on the mountains,
Surrounded by sunshine bright,
It’s easy to forget, up there,
How much we need the Light.

For Every good and perfect gift
Comes from our Father up in heaven,
We did nothing to deserve them,
His gifts are always freely given.

But if we get puffed up with pride,
We stumble, and we fall,
Without His light to guide us,
We can’t see anything at all!

Then we struggle in the depths
Of sin, and deep despair,
That’s when we truly see the Light,
For the Son shines brightest there.

God lets us see the mountain tops,
That make us feel so blessed,
But the valleys are from Him, as well,
They teach us to stand the test.

For it’s down there, in the miry pits,
When hope seems very dim,
We finally lose our pride and ego,
And learn to trust in Him.

Let’s keep our eyes upon the Light,
Sent to us from up above,
He saves us from the darkness,
And keeps us with His love.
