When Jesus Christ Was Born

For unto you is born this day in the city of David
a Savior, which is Christ, the Lord. Luke 2:11

  Mary struggled in childbirth's plight,
   Throughout that long and weary night;
  Then suddenly, a heav'nly light,
  And Jesus Christ was born!

   Angels announced that blessed birth,
   A Savior now had come to earth!
   No one but God knew that child's worth,
   When Jesus Christ was born!

  Bringing us salvation He came,
  Bearing himself all mankind's shame,
  And lives never would be the same,
  Since Jesus Christ was born!

   Though crucified at Calvary,
  From death's dark grip, he was set free;
  God gave Him the sweet victory,
  And Jesus Christ arose!

   He arose, after He was slain,
  A conqueror o'er death and pain;
  Eternally now He will reign,
  Yes, Jesus Christ is King!

   He gave His life for you and me,
   To heaven's gates, He holds the key;
   From condemnation now I'm free,
   'Cause Jesus Christ is King!

  Since I took Jesus at His word,
  Inviting Him to be my Lord,
  Heaven will be my sweet reward,
  Where Jesus Christ is King!
