I Chose To Look The Other Way
I could have spread the word that day, But I chose to look the other way.
It wasn't that I didn't care, I had the time, and I was there.
But I didn't want to seem a fool, Or argue over God's holy rule.
I knew he'd heard the word before; If I preached at him, he might get sore.
I know his stand didn't seem so bad - I 'd done the same, and he knew I had!
I just shook my head , and walked on by, He knew the wrong as well as I.
He chose his life; I closed my eyes, And with that act, I let him die.
I could have spread the word that day, But I chose to look the other way.
Now every time I see his wife, I know I could have helped his life.
That guilt is something I must bear, But it isn't something you need to share.
If you see a sin that others make, That puts their eternal soul at stake,
The word you spread, the thing you say, Could help them live God's holy way.
If you see a sin, and walk away, Then hope you never have to say:
"I could have spread the Word that day, But I chose to look the other way."
