Correcting Our Course
I was driving along the interstate this afternoon, and the weather was all cloudy and overcast. The skies just got darker and darker, and I knew I was heading into a storm.
However, when I took the exit ramp and merged onto the new highway, the sun was peeking through the clouds and I realized I was going to miss the storm.
It was one of those “AHA!” moments. I thought about how many times making a small correction in my course would’ve caused me to miss so many of the storms in my life. Instead, I had so often continued on my merry way, and caused myself much trouble that could have been avoided.
Have you ever flown in a plane when there were storms forecasted? No one wants to fly into a storm – just look at how many planes have crashed becaused they hit a bad storm. The pilots keep in constant communication with the tower, and when there’s bad weather ahead, they alter their course a bit to avoid the storm. The key is that they stay in constant communication with the tower. The controller advises them on how to best avoid the storm.
The best way we can avoid the storms in our lives is to remain in constant communication with the tower, and follow the advice of our Controller. When we do, we will make the corrections in our course that will help us to avoid the storms. We stand a much better chance of not crashing if we can avoid the storm! How much grief, aggravation, and trouble we could save ourselves if we would just learn to change our course instead of going on the way we have been!
There are of course, some storms that come to us that we cannot avoid. But whether we run into the storms deliberately, or the storm comes to us unexpectedly and unavoidably, the best thing to do is the very same thing: stay in constant communication with the Tower, and trust Him to guide us safely through the storm!
The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous run into it, and is safe. Proverbs 18:10
