One mark of a Christian - perhaps the greatest mark - is how they react when faced with adversities and trials. Does your attitude change with your circumstances? Do you worship the Lord in good times, but question and doubt Him when things aren't going well for you? Can you praise Him even when your life seems to be falling apart?
It's easy to worship and praise God when everything's going fine in our life. It's much more difficult when things fall apart: a devastating diagnosis, a child's arrest, an unexpected divorce, a job loss, the tragic loss of a loved one….. how do we worship our God at times like these?
Do we trust Him when we face our darkest hours, and know that He is in complete control, even when life seems out of control? Or is our trust only superficial, only something we say and not something we practice?
True faith in God brings assurance and peace to the soul in all circumstances of prosperity or adversity. The union of the two names - LORD GOD - expresses in the highest degree God's unchanging love and power: He is from everlasting to everlasting, omniscient, omnipotent, always loving. Nothing touches us that God does not allow; every single circumstance in our life happens for a reason, whether we understand that reason or not.
The closer we draw to Him the better able we are to handle any circumstance that comes our way.
The fact is, faith isn't faith until it has been tested. Even steel has to be refined by the fire to gain strength. When our faith is refined by the fires of adversity, trial, even tragedy, it becomes stronger, and we find that our God is fully able to sustain us, even in the midst of the worst times of our lives. We can live in perfect peace when we fully trust in our unchanging God.
