Freely, Freely Give

Heal the sick, cleanse
the lepers, raise the
dead, cast out devils:
freely ye have received,
freely give. Matt. 10:8

In trying to live like Jesus,
There's one thing we must learn:
A gift must be freely given,
Asking nothing in return.

If we are always looking
To receive our "just" reward,
We're giving for our own gain,
Not in service to our Lord.

For life cannot be measured,
By what we gave, or got;
The only measurement is Love,
And if we shared that love, or not.

Christ said, * "Freely did I give to you,
Now you should do the same."
We ought to give with loving heart,
And do it in Jesus' name.

In that way, we'll be serving Him,
Not merely our own selfishness.
To give freely, with contentment:
That's the secret of true happiness.
