Get Thee Behind Me, Satan

Be sober, be vigilant;
because your adversary
the devil, as a roaring
lion, walketh about,
seeking whom he may
devour. I Peter 5:9

The devil is an evil thief,
Who will steal, destroy, and kill,   (*1)
But he can't do a thing to me,
Unless it is God's will.

He can try his best to hurt me,
But I'll come through, somehow;
The enemy can only do to me,
What my God will allow.

For Jesus holds me in the palm
Of His blessed, nail-scarred hand,
And no enemy can pluck me out,
By God's grace, I can withstand.  (*2)

For God's grace is sufficient,
No matter what I have to face;
If for a season, I must suffer,
I can do it, by God's grace.  (*3)

For I'm redeemed by Jesus Christ,
The apple of God's eye, it's true!  (*4)
The devil can't do anything to me,
Unless my God allows him to.

My God may, for His good purpose,
Allow the devil to fill his role;
But satan can't do as he chooses,
For God's in complete control!

And the devil full well knows this,
On that fact, I can depend;
He knows his time is limited,
And that he'll lose, in the end.  (*5)

So get thee behind me, satan!
You have no power here.
My faith is in my awesome God,
And I have no need for fear!

*1= John 10:10 The thief cometh not but to steal, kill, and destroy.

*2= John 10:28-30 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one."

*3= II Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

*4= Zechariah 2:8 For he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of His eye.

*5= Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
